Established Hall of Famers like Donnacha O'Dea and Surinder Sunar are now returning to the lucrative Tournament Circuit and Ladies Poker Hall of Famer Cyndy Violette, the most feared 7 Card Stud player in the world, is now earning a good living playing "flop" tourneys.

I have long been advising voters of the criteria for induction into the Poker Hall of Fame:

1) Must have played poker at the highest level (Cash or Tournament play)
2) Ideal Ambassador for the game of poker
3) Has won a major championship
4) Recommended by peers
5) Voted for by you - the poker players

For new players coming into the world of poker it must be captivating to see certain players winning tournaments again and again. But are they the best players? They certainly have a knack of accumulating chips especially in re-buy tournaments. Of course, once they have established a good chip lead they can raise and bluff and also take a few setbacks on their way to victory. Bluffing in the real world of cash poker is not usually a good idea with the exception of short-handed games (5 players or less).

Rob Hollink, who was inducted into The Hall Of Fame last year says "people ask me about my best poker achievements. They expect me to say the EPT Title, but for me,my cash game results are more important."
Recent inductee John Gale had played poker for over 20 years before suddenly developing a knack of winning pot-limit holdem poker tourneys. He won his WSOP bracelet in 2006 after being narrowly beaten into 2nd place in the same event in 2005. John does not need to put large amounts at risk to earn an average payday when he can wager a relatively small amount to win a handsome prize.

Of course, the enormous increase in TV coverage of poker in recent years has brought the skills of the 'DevilFish' and Marcel Luske to our attention. Although neither are renowned cash game players, both have achieved financial success on the tournament circuit, not to mention their entertainment value.

But there is an old poker adage which says, "When you sit down at the poker table, look around. And if you can't spot the fish, you're it!" You will also find out who is the best player. I am looking for the best player in your country to become the next Hall of Famer. So send me your vote to: theking@elvis-senior.com
